But the work that consumes me is that of mother, trying to make sense of the world around us, and testing whether you really can have it all. Currently reading..."Mrs. Dalloway" by Virginia WoolfAn orange moon
kmccarthy, Wed, August 22nd, 2007 The orange moon rose over the proud house. That's how Caroline Sheehan and I started a novel this evening, as we stood on a patio in the middle of a lively party. It had been a top 10 day Crookhaven day. Sunny, warm, still, and all we happy holiday makers talked of how we'd spent the day and planned for tomorrow, the annual fishing competition. The moon had been up for quite a while, and actually looked like it might be getting ready to settle into the ocean for the night. There's ocean everywhere in this part of Ireland, and from Mags and Mark's patio, we looked across fields and out at nothing but ocean. The moon can be more of a rarity, since weather can be iffy in this part of the world. But for the past few evenings, the skies have been clear, and the waxing moon has gone from a faint light in the afternoon sky to a bright beam in the evening. By midnight, it has yielded to a dome of stars that seem close enough to touch. For a little while, though, that just-more-than-half-moon hovered over the ocean, glowing orange. Does it mean a nice day tomorrow? Sure hope so. Does it mean a bestselling novel? That would be a good dream to dream. blog comments powered by Disqus Archives
