![]() Sports ScrapsThe blog is an extension of my "From the Sports Desk" column in Spotlight Newspapers. The focus will be on Capital District sports, but occasionally there will be national or international items. Sports Scraps will be updated two to three times per week, so it will be more timely than the weekly column that appears in all the print editions. Suburban Council hoop notes
rjonas, Wed, January 14th, 2009 Some quick observations from the world of Suburban Council basketball: • Another year, another injury for Saratoga's Jordan Stevens. This time, it's a sprained ankle that's keeping him out of the lineup. If not for the multitude of injuries Stevens has suffered during his varsity career, he'd be well over 1,500 points. That's how good he's been when he's been healthy. • Shaker suffered its fifth loss by two or fewer points Tuesday night against Bethlehem. Fate has been rather cruel to the Blue Bison, don't you think? • I don't expect Mohonasen to win the South Division title, but it would be nice to see it happen. Ken Dagostino has made the Mighty Warriors a team to be reckoned with on a regular basis. • Best basketball matchup to brave the Arctic cold to see Friday night? Bethlehem at Colonie in girls hoops. It should be a close game with plenty of lead changes and a lot of good defense. • Keep an eye on the Averill Park girls team. The Warriors will make a strong push for the South Division title, especially if they avenge their losses to Bethlehem (42-40) and Mohonasen (49-48). That's all I have for now. Stay tuned for more Suburban Council updates. CATEGORY: Basketball
