Elizabeth M. Covart, “Albany After the Revolution: An American City in Transition”

Elizabeth M. Covart, recently awarded her Ph.D. from University of California at Davis, will share her research conducted at the Albany Institute and New York State Library that reveals new perspectives on how Albany changed physically, demographically and linguistically in the years following the American War for Independence. Covart will begin with Washington’s 1783 visit to the city, examine how the Erie Canal shaped the cultural landscape and end at the year 1830 when Albany’s population reached almost 25,000 residents. FREE with museum admission.
