The exhibition’s title compares the spices that add zest to the food that sustains us to art, which infuses our spiritual and material live with interest and surprise. It is an uplifting celebration of color and form in a variety of media including printmaking, watercolor and acrylic painting, pottery, sculpture, fiber art and photography.

Participants in the art programs at the Roarke Center are artists who live in poverty and deal with disabilities, mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Art provides them with channels for building self esteem and improving social interactions. The purpose of the art programs is not production but change in participants’ lives. Sr. Loretta Hoag, who is also an artist, directs and mentors participating art students.
