Firefighters honored for flood assistance

Town officials recognized the service of 29 firefighters from the five fire departments that sent volunteers to Broome County to assist in the aftermath of the June floods that devastated the area and compromised water, sewer and natural gas services and emergency response.

The 29 volunteers assisted state and local agencies over the course of four days with getting those services back to residents, as well as providing needed fire prevention services.

The firefighters were awarded certificates for their outstanding service.

They are listed by department: Maplewood -- Kyle Drescher, Scott Clark and Chris Gravelle; Schuyler Heights -- Gary Adkins, James Strock, John Dombroski, Lou Hillebrand and Aaron Fandl; Menands -- Andy Boyd; West Albany -- Daniel Sullivan, Vic Graves, Pete Murray III, Pat Cramer, Matt Zink, Butch Barlette, Pete Benedetto, Pete Benedetto Jr., Sean Sullivan, Tim McClure, Jeff Stipe, Eric Garhart, Mike Schaap, George Brown and Josh Bleichert; and Shaker Road -- Chris Douglas, CJ Heinbach, John Schroll, Ryan Faulkner and Jerry Paris.
