Amanda Begin had 14 kills and six digs to lead the Spartans, who were in search of their third consecutive state title. Erin Little contributed eight kills, and Becca Ormsby added 28 assists.
"I just want to concentrate on this group and what they did," said Bynon. "To come off a school-record season (in 2005) and come back here is a great accomplishment."
BH-BL had to survive a tough pool play round to reach the state finals. The Spartans were stunned by Section XI champion Harbor-fields 25-21 in their first game last Friday, but they bounced back to beat the Tornadoes 25-20 in their second game. Then, they swept Section V champion Wayne 25-18 and 25-20 to improve their record to 3-1.
"We just started playing better (after the first game against Harborfields), and we played with a lot of emotion in that second match with Wayne," said Bynon.
Hendrick Hudson beat BH-BL 25-19 and 25-16 in their two pool play games, but the Spartans secured their championship berth after Wayne swept Harborfields 25-14, 25-13.
BH-BL was the lone Section II team to advance out of pool play at the state tournament. Lake George (class C) and Loudonville Christian School (class D) each had third-place finishes.""
