Plainsmen get back to business

"Curley got into the starting lineup " he was only a freshman last year " so now, he's got to be a producer up top. The same thing with Izykowski," said Campisi.

Popolizio and Izykowski scored Shen's goals in last Saturday's win against Liverpool. Izykowski set up Popolizio with a crossing pass that Popolizio knocked into an open goal in the first half. Then, Izykowski made a run in the second half off a lead pass from Matt Konecnik and shot the ball by James Taber for the second goal.

"It was great for Izzy to get that goal," said Campisi. "He just needs that because he's going to have a lot of opportunities. That was a nice strike. He hit that well."

Defensively, Shen has several new faces including Konecnik and sophomore Bobbi Buchanan, as well as goaltenders Ryan Jones, Kyle Boni and Garrett Futterer. Senior tri-captain David Burke is the only link left from a defensive unit that held its opponents scoreless through the final four games of the Plainsmen's playoff run last year.

Shen begins its Suburban Council season Thursday against Niskayuna " the last team that scored a goal against it " and Izykowski said the players expect a challenge. Not just from the Silver Warriors, but from all of their league foes.

"They gun for us whether we're state champs, Sectional champs or had a bad season," said Izykowski. "So, we know we have to come out (strong). Every game is going to be just as hard as every other game.""
