The town subsequently filed an appeal to the Supreme Court ruling. The appellate ruling, which was expected to be issued soon, may now be a moot point.
Tommasone would prefer to see a technology-related company locate there because they would bring higher-paying jobs to Rotterdam than a retail outlet.
The supervisor said that Wal-Mart's decision to withdraw their plans for a super center is an opportunity for the town to talk with the effected property owners and plan a direction for development of that section of town.
"We're not in a situation where one side wins and the other side loses," Tommasone said. "I don't view it that way. We're going to sit down, work together and find solutions to market that area."
