Scott, who was named department fireman of the year twice, once in 1978 and again in 1992, was more than able to handle the task, day in and day out, Primo said.
"That's what we do, we put our lives on the line for others and unfortunately the ultimate sacrifice happens," said Primo, who's been with the department for 25 years. "There has been a lot of mourning."
Upon learning of Scott's death, the 20-volunteer department took 36 hours to reflect on him and his decades of service. Other departments from the town filled in for the department, providing needed fire services, cooking meals and just being there for the Menands volunteers, said Primo.
A memorial service will be held for Capt. Edgar H. Scott at 7 p.m., Friday, April 13, at the Marriott Hotel on Wolf Road.
The department is asking all visiting fire departments to contact Colonie's Department of Fire Services at 783-2712 by 5 p.m., Thursday, April 12, for a head count of those wishing to attend the service.""
