Scotties head in new direction

The Scotties began their Suburban Council season Tuesday against Guilderland. They travel to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Friday before hosting Saratoga Springs next Tuesday.

Saratoga (1-1) opened its season with a third-place finish in its tournament last weekend. The Blue Streaks fell to Vestal 61-51 in Friday's opening round, but rebounded to edge Glens Falls 69-66 in Saturday's consolation game.

Jordan Stevens exploded for 34 points to lead Saratoga past Glens Falls. Ryan James contributed 14 points, and Mike McCarthy added 12 points. Stevens had a team-high 17 points in the loss to Vestal.

BH-BL (0-2) struggled in its Shawn Walsh Memorial Tournament. The Spartans (0-2) lost to Oneonta 59-46 in Friday's opening round and Columbia 55-36 in Saturday's consolation game. David Fischer had 14 points, and Jared Falkowitz chipped in 11 points against Oneonta. Patrick Kane and Paul Layton each scored eight points in Saturday's loss to Columbia.

Saratoga Central Catholic (1-1) began its season at last week's Broadalbin-Perth Tournament. The Saints defeated Tamarac 72-63 in last Wednesday's opening round before losing to Broadalbin-Perth 59-58 in Saturday's championship game.

Pat O'Rourke had a big tournament for Saratoga Catholic. He scored 28 points against Tamarac and poured in 24 points against Broadalbin-Perth. O'Rourke's brother Kevin had 18 points in the win against Tamarac.""
