ROTTERDAM: Sabres spear Saints in opener

Sargent said Pendt should be back on the sideline for Schalmont Friday, which should give the Sabres more motivation to win.

"It just makes us play harder because we want to do well for him," said McDonald. "When he's here, you can just feel it."

The Schalmont boys team also won its opening round Sectional game Tuesday, as the Sabres nip-ped Johnstown 44-43.

Josh Catino had 17 points for Schalmont, which advances to Saturday's quarterfinal game against Schuylerville at Hudson Valley Community College.

Among the Sectional games scheduled for Wednesday was a class AA boys game between Nis-kayuna and CBA and a class A boys game between Hudson Falls and Mohonasen.""
