"It was her excellent work in the spring on this vital task that prompted us to apply for a Summer Scholars scholarship to allow her to continue her work into the summer," said Dr. Karen Ward Mahar, director of the college's American studies program, in a written statement.
As Shaker Historical Society staff organized for last weekend's annual craft fair and weekend tours, Heffernan's newly catalogued cache of Shaker heirlooms were to be on display.
Heffernan finished what she could before leaving and she hopes to be able to return in the fall to finalize the inventory, she said.
The American Studies major hopes that the new inventory will help facilitate the continued educational programs ran by the society. She also hopes that it will help the Shakers garner a newfound place in American history in grade schools and colleges alike.
