The Wall That Heals will be open 24 hours a day beginning 10 a.m. Aug. 9, and admission is free.
"A lot of Vietnam veterans will come in the middle of the night because they don't necessarily want to be seen," said Eisenhauer, who said the country often overlooks veterans after a war is over. "They're still around when there is no war."
The main speaker for the local event will be Col. Samuel H. Johnson, who will be the next Chief of Staff for the Corps of Cadets at the United States Military Academy. He has also served with the 25th Infantry Division in route to Afghanistan as director for joint interagency effects at the combined forces command headquarters in Kabul.
