MALTA: Schools prep for AMD

AMD, the No. 2 chip maker in the world, announced last fall that it will build a chip processing plant that will eventually employ 1,200 to 2,000 people at the 1,300-acre Luther Forest campus in Malta and Stillwater. Construction could start between 2007 and 2009, with an operational target date of 2012.

AMD has an agreement with the state that will give it $1.2 billion in incentives if it begins building the Luther Forest plant before July 2009 and employs at least 1,200 people. AMD's board of directors hasn't set a more definite time frame, but the company has been doing a detailed plant design for internal consideration.""
