Fiore also has a pair of promising freshmen in guard Theresa Coles and forward Amy Jefferson.

"They're very fast, and they're fitting into our system very well," said Fiore.

There won't be much time for the younger players to get adjusted to the varsity level before they face their first challenge. Colonie is playing two of the Suburban Council's top teams " Bethlehem and Guilderland " in next weekend's Bethlehem Tip-off Tournament.

Still, Fiore said she believes her team is ready for the challenge of defending last year's Sectional title.

"I think we're going to be very competitive," she said. "People are counting us out because we graduated nine seniors. They're gunning for us, but this team likes to fight. Every night is going to be a battle.""
