In all, it took Rodriguez a half hour to treat the 12-year-old before he could be hoisted up to the waiting helicopter.
State Police Acting Superintendent Preston L. Felton commended the three paramedics as well as pilot Bruce Mesh and co-pilot Kathy Sweeney.
Since the program between Colonie paramedics and the state police was formed in 1993, the two organizations have worked well together, said Politis. Each of the rescues, including this one, has been done with extraordinary team effort, he said.
July was a particularly busy month for the crew, said Rodriguez.
Of the more than 300 times the group is activated in a year, approximately 120 require helicopter evacuations, said Politis.
The Kaaterskill Falls rescue was one of four similar, but not as severe, rescues the team performed in two weeks, he said.
