The unit was stationed at Bagram Air Base and was running missions bringing food and supplies to the Army troops on the ground.
"It was challenging and different than what we are used to," Lt. Col. Tom Esposito of Malta said. "It was very hot, dry and dusty, and you were at high altitudes, but it was tougher for the Army troops on the ground."
Esposito has been in the military for 18 years, but this is his first time serving in a war. His two children, Anna, 4, and Camden, 6, were there to welcome him home. Esposito said he missed Anna's birthday and Camden's first day of school, but both children didn't seem to mind as long as their dad was home safe.
