The board voted to apply the village's portion of the Saratoga County sales tax surplus rebate to fixing up some of the aging roofs on municipal buildings. Romano said the roofs have been patched up for years, but even the patches are leaking, and maintenance has become impossible. The village's rebate of $92,000 will be allocated to replacing the main roof at the Eagle Matt-Lee firehouse, the roof over the garage bay at the Union Fire Company firehouse, the rear roof of the police department, and the lower roof on the DPW facility. Each job will be put out on separate bid, and the jobs will be prioritized in order of need.
"We'll pick out the worst of the worst to be replaced first," said Romano. "Will this money be enough? We don't know, but we have to start somewhere."
Roofing job bids will be due Oct. 11.
The Village Board of Trustees will meet again Monday, Oct. 8, at the village clerk's office on Front Street.""
