The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk baseball team started the season with a bang.
Joey Boomhower hit a home run and combined with three other pitchers for nine strikeouts in a 7-4 non-league victory over Coxsackie-Athens last Thursday in Ravena.
Considering how much we'd been on the field, it was a very good effort, said R-C-S coach Bob Dorrance.
The Indians scored one run in the bottom of the second inning and two runs in the bottom of the third before breaking the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Coxsackie-Athens (1-1) scored twice in each of the last two innings, but it wasn't enough.
Zach Deering contributed a double for R-C-S, which only had three outdoor practices on its home field before hosting Coxsackie-Athens.
"The field drained well, and it was in pretty good shape," said Dorrance.
The Indians are hoping for similar efforts during their Colonial Council schedule, which is slated to begin Monday, April 7, against Lansingburgh.
"Lansingburgh is Lansingburgh " they always have a couple of good pitchers," said Dorrance.""
