The law comes in the wake of a number of high-profile accidents attributed to cell phone text messaging and driving, including a deadly commuter train crash in Los Angeles that was caused by a conductor who was text messaging. In June of 2007, five Upstate teens died in a car crash " the cause of which was suspected to be text messaging.
"Even people who do text while driving know it's a bad idea. I hope that when people get into their cars and think about texting and driving, they won't," said Savage.""
