Guilderland looks forward to league season

The Guilderland hockey team is hoping the Capital District High School Hockey League season goes better than its first four games.

The Dutchmen (0-4) struggled at last weekend's Potsdam Tournament, losing to the host school 13-5 in Friday's opening round and falling to Canton 3-0 in Saturday's second round.

It was a little rough, said Guilderland coach John DeRubertis.

Potsdam scored less than 10 seconds into Friday's game and quickly built a 3-0 lead before the Dutchmen got their skates under them.

"The kids gave it a pretty good effort," said DeRubertis. "We did score five goals against a good team."

Dan Dickinson recorded a hat trick, and Collin Burg and Greg Warnken added goals for Guilderland.

The Dutchmen's defense was sharper against Canton, but they couldn't get any points on the scoreboard.

"We were generating (scoring) opportunities like the night before, but we didn't put the puck in," said DeRubertis.""
