Late goal lifts Guilderland past Shaker/Colonie in county cup finals

Both teams had chances to take the lead in the third period before Evans scored with 2:18 left.

"(After the second period) I told them they quit. 'You guys got two goals and thought it was going to be easy, and that's not how it works,'" said DeRubertis. "I emphasized to them that with Sectionals coming up, if you approach every game this way, you're going to get it handed it to you. And they responded in the third period."

Collin Burg added an empty net goal with seven seconds left to seal the victory for Guilderland.

Both teams begin their Sectional playoff pushes Wednesday. No. 2 seed Guilderland hosts No. 7 Saratoga Springs at Union College, while No. 6 S/C travels to No. 3 seed LaSalle.

"We have a tough game coming up on Wednesday," said Hudak. ""
