Hargrave, a Republican, also appointed a Democrat to the board's most powerful committee, the formerly all-Republican Law and Finance Committee. Town of Providence Supervisor Richard Hunter will serve on that committee this year.
Wilton Supervisor Arthur Johnson, a Republican, will lead the Law and Finance Committee. The Law and Finance chairman typically becomes the board chairman the following year.
Although the votes are weighted by town population, the board is dominated by Republicans, with 18 members, to five Democrats.
In addition to the salaries the supervisors are paid in their towns, they earn $17,797 a year for their roles on the board and are paid 50.5 cents a mile for travel.
