Legendary Ballston Spa football coach William Scott dies at 97

There was no question that Scott's name would be assigned to Ballston sports teams.

"There was no nickname at the time," said Ravena; the sports teams were simply referred to as "Ballston Spa" before adopting Scott's name. "Even in his passing, you have to look at it from the point of view that they will always be the 'Scotties.'"

Guido said that Coach Scott was adamant in his wish for no funeral or calling hours. Instead, a celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 23, at 6 p.m. in the Ballston Spa High School auditorium, where Ravena and others will speak. Following the ceremony, there will be a reception in the cafeteria.

Scott's family has also started a scholarship fund in his name. Contributions to the William R. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund can be made through the Ballston Spa National Bank. The scholarship will be awarded each year to a worthy college-bound Ballston Spa senior with an involvement in sports.""
