Rotterdam water deemed best in Schenectady County

It's probably the only taste test around where the primary goal is having no taste at all.

It's the Schenectady County water tasting contest of course.

Municipalities squared off for bragging rights to the clearest, purest and coldest H20, on Thursday, June 26 at the Farmers Market in downtown Schenectady.

Rotterdam took this year's title, narrowly edging out both Niskayuna and last year's winnerthe city of Schenectady.

Glenville and Rotterdam Junction also participated in the competition.

Members of the public participated in the test, blindly sampling water from the municipalities and then voting for their top two choices.

Rotterdam will move on to a regional competition in July.

The winner of the regional competition will do battle with towns from around the state at the state fair in August.

Rotterdam also won the title for best water in the state in 2003.

Its a true testament to our water plant operators and the people twho have come before us who help protect our precious water supply," said Rotterdam Supervisor Steven Tommasone.
