Guilderland survives Shenendehowa's fourth quarter rally

Guilderland has, on paper, an easy week ahead of it. After playing Gold Division cellar dweller Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Tuesday, the Dutchmen meet a struggling Bethlehem squad Thursday before playing 2-8 Albany Academy Saturday.

"We need some of the young guys to step up, and this is a good week for that because they should have some playing time," said McConaghy.

The Guilderland girls lacrosse team also had a good week as it solidified its hold on first place in the Suburban Council. The Lady Dutch downed second-place Shaker 19-7 last Wednesday and defeated Averill Park 18-2 last Friday to remain undefeated with three games left in the regular season.

Chelsey Newman scored five goals to lead Guilderland past Shaker. Courtney Davis contributed four goals and two assists, while Abbey Fashouer added four goals and an assist.

The offense was better balanced in Friday's win against Averill Park as six Guilderland players scored at least two goals. Newman and Jen Madsen each recorded hat tricks, while Davis, Fashouer, Bridget Daley and Meera Chappidi all tallied twice.

Danielle Tetreault added a goal and five assists.""
