BC boys fall in finale

Bethlehem's boys soccer team finished the regular season last Thursday with a 2-0 home loss to Suburban Council South Division champion Guilderland.

Tony Campagnano scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half, and Rory Nunamacher added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute to secure the Dutchmen's first perfect record since 1967.

"All the credit goes to Guilderland," said Bethlehem coach Phil Ridgway. "They're not the most skilled team, but their athleticism allows them to force the style of play."

Bethlehem (10-4-2, 11-4-3) had a chance to tie the game with 15 minutes left in the second half. Guilderland goaltender Devin Bailey bobbled the ball after making the initial save, but a Dutchmen defender was in position to clear the ball away before an Eagle could get his foot on it.

"You've got to score to win these games, and we didn't," said Ridgway.

Bailey made five saves for Guilderland, while Dan Maddock stopped six shots for Bethlehem.""
