Ranalli said Glenville police were assisted in the investigation by the Albany division of the Secret Service.
Ranalli said the best advice he can give to consumers is to sit down and review statements on a monthly basis. He said checking accounts online every day is even better.
"Trying to work it out after the fact -- that takes up a lot more time over getting in the habit of checking your accounts regularly," said Ranalli.
Wal-Mart employees were lauded for their part in the arrest. Glenville Sgt. Steven Janik had earlier this year asked store like Wal-Mart to improve their security for these types of scams.
"The more informed employees and consumers are, the savvier we can be at catching these types of activities, "said Janik.""
