Caleb Gleason provided a significant portion of Watervliet's points. He intercepted a Duncan pass in the first quarter and returned it 20 yards for the Cannoneers' second touchdown of the game. Then, he caught a 40-yard scoring strike from quarterback Chris Hughes early in the second quarter to make the score 27-0. Gleason also kicked four extra points.
Voorheesville finally put points on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter. Duncan completed a series of passes including a four-yard touchdown strike to James Currier with 24 seconds left. It was the first time this season that the Blackbirds entered the end zone.
"Our kids definitely needed something positive to gain confidence from, and I think that's an issue for us because I don't think we've played with much confidence this season," said Sapienza.
The Blackbirds will try to build some more momentum Saturday when they host Fonda-Fultonville in a Class C South Division game at Buckley Memorial Field.""
