From GEDs to EMTs: YouthBuild program helps students along career path

Northeast Parent and Child's YouthBuild Schenectady Program received the grant based on a recommendation from YouthBuild USA, which reviewed the program and selected it for the grant.

There are two YouthBuild tracks, according to Alpert. YouthBuild Schenectady offers the EMT track, which started in July, and the construction track, where students build affordable housing for homeless and low-income people while working to obtain their GEDs.

The $50,000 grant is a part of a $5 million grant from the foundation that will help fund 59 YouthBuild affiliates nationwide.

"It's very exciting," Alpert said of the program. "Northeast focuses on getting people job training, so they can provide for their families and contribute to the community.""
