"It's a national security matter," said Conyers. "It's in the national interest to have a healthy country. All we're saying is that it's a right."
Each person enrolled in the program would receive a United States Health Insurance Card with an individual ID number. This is all anyone would need to receive care. The program established by H.R. 676 would cover all "medically necessary services without charging co-pays or deductibles. The services covered would include: primary care, in-patient, outpatient and emergency hospital care; prescription drugs, durable medical equipment; hearing, dental and vision care; chiropractic treatment; mental health services; and long-term care. There would be no limits in terms of "catastrophic coverage."
"This is not complicated," said Conyers. "I'll make it really simple for all those folks in Congress who are resisting: We want a single payer health-care system that every industrialized country in the world already has." ""
