Saratoga Springs sprinter Madalayne Smith had a big day at last Saturday's Suburban Council Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University at Albany.
Smith set Section II records in the 55-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles as part of a day where she won three individual titles. She finished with a time of 7.09 seconds in the 55 dash and a time of 8.11 seconds in the 55 hurdles. Smith also won the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 2 inches.
Smith's efforts helped Saratoga take the girls team title with 109 points. Shenendehowa was second with 88 points, and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake placed third with 55 points.
Two of Smith's Saratoga team-mates won individual titles at the league meet. Keelin Hollowood won the 3,000 in a time of 10:36.08, and Marion Sephas took first place in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 7.25 inches.
Shen had four individual cham-pions and a first-place relay team. Alex Burtnick won the 600 in a time of 1:40.21, Danika Simonson finished first in the 1,000 in a time of 3:02.21, Michelle Quimby defended her pole vault title by clearing 11 feet, 6 inches and Savannah Gordon won the weight throw with a toss of 40 feet, 4 inches.
Shen's 3,200 relay team of Simonson, Patty Massa, Lizzie Predmore and Cara Janeczko took first place in a time of 9:21.01.
Meaghan Gregory was a double winner for BH-BL. She took first place in the 1,500 with a time of 4:49.34, and she teamed up with Callen Gray, Larene Cameron and Kendra Adams to win the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:15.85.
On the boys' side, Shaker surprised Shen to win the team title with 116 points. Shen finished second with 76 points, while Saratoga placed third with 61 points. Ballston Spa was fourth with 54 points, and BH-BL took fifth place with 50 points.
