The Bethlehem boys basketball team ended its regular season with a 61-54 Suburban Council victory over Averill Park Tuesday.
Kevin Wendth scored 21 points to lead the Eagles on Senior Night.
If we can get a win on Senior Night, it's a big deal, said Bethlehem coach A.G. Irons.
Averill Park went into the locker room at halftime with a 28-27 lead after a foul- and turnover-laden first half, but Bethlehem asserted itself in the third quarter. The Eagles gained the lead early on and built a five-point advantage entering the fourth quarter.
"We were preserving what we have done at home this year," said Irons. "We have had a pretty good record at home."
The victory gives Bethlehem momentum heading into its opening round game against Christian Brothers Academy Wednesday in Colonie.
"It put us to .500 in the league, which is an accomplishment," said Irons. "We really don't want to be off for eight days on a loss."
