When Hana received notification on Sunday, Dec. 18, it began making preparations to make alcohol available for Friday, Dec. 23, the day management officially received the license.
Cheng said he was apprehensive about being open on Christmas.
"Any new business, you don't know what kind of reception you'll get," Cheng said.
He said, though, it went better than expected, and Hana served 300 diners for the day.
"It's a gift during Christmas," he said.
He said for the past three or four months there has not been too much money to go around, and many establishments are struggling.
He emphasized how thankful he is that the establishment finally received the license, and is ready to move forward into the New Year.
In 2007 the SLA generated $52,938,277 in total licensing revenue. In its last report it states 6,506 licenses applications were received and 6,029 were approved. ""
