Interim police chief to be appointed in Niskayuna

The Niskayuna Town Board will be voting on a resolution to appoint Lieutenant John Lubrant as an interim Police Chief at its Board meeting on Tuesday, July 28.

Lieutenant Lubrant has served the Niskayuna Police Department for the past 27 years. Lt. Lubrant has risen through the ranks of the Niskayuna Police Department, beginning as a Patrolman in June of 1982. He then was promoted to Detective in October of 1987, followed by a promotion to Sergeant in February of 1995. In August of 1996, Lubrant was promoted to Detective Sergeant, and he reached the rank of Lieutenant in December of 2001.

John Lubrant has been an asset to the Niskayuna Police force for over 27 years, said Councilwoman Liz Orzel Kasper in a written statement.

"As chair of the Public Safety Committee, I have worked closely with John on many issues. He is always ready with the necessary information and willing to work together with the committee members to achieve the most desirable outcomes for the Town," said Kasper.

"We are very pleased that John is willing to accept this position as interim Police Chief. I have had the pleasure of working with John for the past year and a half, and I believe that he possesses the abilities and qualities necessary for this position. I look forward to working with him in his new capacity," said Town Supervisor Joe Landry in a written statement.
