One bad quarter proved to be the difference between advancing and being eliminated for the Voorheesville boys basketball team.
Fifth-seeded Lake George outscored the Blackbirds 18-7 in the third quarter and held on for a 50-45 victory in Saturday's Section II, Class CC quarterfinal game at The College of Saint Rose in Albany.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, as the lead changed hands several times before fourth-seeded Voorheesville built a 26-24 lead at halftime. But the Blackbirds had a hard time containing Lake George's perimeter shooters in the second half, as the Warriors grabbed the lead for good.
Nathaniel Miller drained three shots from beyond the three-point arc as part of an 18-point night for Lake George, which advanced to Monday's semifinal against top-seeded Maple Hill at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Jake Nelson contributed 10 points, and Lucas Freihofer added nine points on three threes.
Nick Kinisky scored 14 points, and Ethan Mackey chipped in 11 points for Voorheesville, which finishes the season with a 14-7 record.
In Class AA, Big 10 champion Bishop Maginn eliminated Guilderland 84-42 in Saturday's quarterfinal round at Hudson Valley Community College. The Dutchmen finished the season with a 13-9 record.
Bethlehem was eliminated in last Wednesday's opening round with a 63-53 loss to Christian Brothers Academy in Colonie. Kevin Wendth led the Eagles (8-13) with 19 points."
