Mohonasen survives physical regional final against Mexico

"It was really exhilarating (to hit that three-pointer) because I hadn't been on all game, so it was great to hit that shot," said Cowell, who finished with nine points.

"Courtney Cowell was unbelievable tonight," said Brosious. "She's just been awesome at the defensive end for us all season, but now she's coming up with big shots, too."

Nicole Adach led Mohonasen with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Michelle Aviza contributed 10 points and nine rebounds, and Lea McLain added eight points and 13 boards.

Evie Josbena paced Mexico with 10 points, but it came with a 3-for-13 shooting performance from the floor and a 4-for-10 day at the free throw line. Angie Josbena had a harder time shooting the ball against Mohonasen's defense, making only one of her 10 shots from the field as part of an eight-point afternoon.

Mohonasen advances to Friday's state semifinal against Section I champion Albertus Magnus at Hudson Valley Community College. The winner meets either Floral Park (Section VIII) or Newark (Section V) in Saturday's state final.""
