While Grogin said that breaking typically not only involves wood but bricks and other, harder materials, Pagliuca said she will not be moving on to breaking bricks until she reaches her black belt. Pagliuca said that she will probably reach her black belt by the time she turns 16.
Grogin said that while Pagliuca's skills are undeniable to anyone watching her, those who are unfamiliar with her are surprised when they first see her in action.
"She gets a lot of attention because she's a little girl with a cutesy little look, but when she gets to an event, she's very focused and very intense," he said.
Pagliuca said she was happy to earn her title and that the experience she gained from doing so is something she will carry with her into future competitions.
"I feel very proud," she said. "It was eye-opening." ""
