Schalmont candidates run unopposed

Two candidates, Albert Falcone and Gregory Campoli, are running for two three-year seats available on the Schalmont Central School District's Board of Education. Voting will take place Tuesday, May 19, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Schalmont High School gym.

Albert Falcone is running for his second term on the school board. Falcone earned a bachelor's degree in music education from the College of St. Rose. He is the owner of Mars Group, LLC, and is self-employed as a manufacturers representative.

Falcone is a member of the Northeast Retail Lumber Association and the American Millwork Distributors Association. He is also involved in the Schalmont Summer Band and the Dollars for Scholars program. He previously spent several years involved in the Rotterdam youth soccer program.

He and his wife, Debbie, have two children, one of whom is a sophomore in college and the other a junior at Schalmont High School.

[Over] the last three years we've added programs at the middle school and high school while reducing the taxes to the public, said Falcone.

"I think that we've done a good job; we've worked hard, [and made] improvements to the building," said Falcone.

He believes that it is important to keep existing programs and grow them, and add programs at a lesser cost, as well.

Gregory Campoli is running for his first term on the school board.

Campoli is a Schalmont High School graduate. He earned a bachelor's degree in electric power engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master's degree in business administration from Union College.

He is the supervisor of reliability, compliance and assessment at the New York Independent System Operator. NYISO operates the state's bulk electricity grid and administers the state's wholesale electricity markets.

Campoli served on the Community Budget Advisory Committee in Schalmont this year. He has also volunteered as a coach for the Rotterdam Pop Warner, CYO Basketball, Rotterdam Little League and Rotterdam Youth Soccer programs.

He and his wife, Colleen, have a son who currently attends Schalmont Middle School.
