The Shaker boys track and field team likes relay meets.
One week after edging She-nendehowa for the Colonie Relays title, the Blue Bison took first place at the Ithaca Relays Saturday. Shaker finished with 76.5 points, more than five points ahead of runner-up Corning.
Craig Weiss, Ryan Egan and Matt Conti each ran on two winning relays for the Blue Bison. Weiss and Egan teamed up with Casey Gillboy and Eric Young to win the 6,400-meter relay with a time of 18:23.53, and they ran with Chris Herman and Chris VanZetta on Shaker's first-place 3,200-meter relay team, which finished with a time of 8:08.69.
Conti ran on the third leg of Shaker's victorious 1,600-meter relay, which finished with a time of 3:24.85. Brendan Dolan, Matt Dustin and Jaquell Chandler also ran on the 1,600-meter relay.
In the 800-meter relay, the team of Conti, Alvin Porter, Robert Johnson and Bryan Letourneau took first place with a time of 1:31.83.
Shaker added second-place performances in the 440-meter shuttle hurdle relay, the 400-meter relay, the long jump relay and the triple jump relay. The Blue Bison's hurdle relay team of Dolan, Cedric Forbes, Craig Allen and Ryan Daugherty finished with a time of 1:05.39, and the 400 relay team of Porter, Johnson, Daugherty and George Baity ran a time of 44.17 seconds.
Prince Abban led Shaker's long and triple jump relay teams. Abban leaped 20 feet, 10.75 inches in the long jump and had a distance of 42 feet, 10.25 inches in the triple jump.
Jose Ruiz helped the long jump relay with a leap of 18 feet, 10.5 inches, and Michael Ofosu covered a distance of 41 feet, 6.25 inches in the triple jump.
Shaker also placed in the top six in the shot put (third), discus (fourth), pole vault (fourth), 3,200-meter steeplechase (fourth) and distance medley (fifth) relays.
The Blue Bison will compete at the Eddy Meet Saturday at Union College."
