New kid on the block

White Management Vice president Brian White unveiled the newly renovated Central Steak on Central Avenue Monday, Aug. 16. Formerly The Butcher Block Restaurant, White said the company put $900,000 into completely redoing the place.

We wanted to make it appealing to a much more wide variety of customers, he said. "We wanted to do it right."

Left over from the original store were pieces of memorabilia hanging on the walls. Now those walls are bare after the restaurant held the event "Chip off the Old Block" where they auctioned off those items on the wall to raise money for the Mohawk Hudson River Humane Society. They were able to donate nearly $3,500 to the Humane Society from the funds raised.

The restaurant also held another event entitled "A Tasting @ Central Steak," where cocktails and food were served to 200 guests. All of the money raised from the event " a total of $6,400 -" went toward the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region.

"Our [main objective] is to give back to the community," said General Manager David Hansen. "We're committed to being a community partner."
