Shaker boys, Shen girls win DI titles

Yousef Zaid fended off Shaker's Ryan Egan to win the 1,000-meter race at Sectionals. Zaid finished with a time of 2:35.8, while Egan settled for second place with a time of 2:36.5.

Colonie's John Drabik posted a Section II-record time of 6.1 seconds to win the 55-meter dash.

On the girls' side, Shen eased past the competition to win the Division I team title with 169 points. Saratoga Springs was second with 138 points, and Colonie placed third with 58 points.

Lizzie Predmore led the Plainsmen with victories in the two longest races of the day. The sophomore took first place in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:38.9, and she won the 3,000 with a time of 10:14.6.

Savannah Gordon was a double winner for Shen in field events. Gordon took first place in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 8.75 inches, and she won the weight throw with a distance of 43 feet, 11.25 inches.

Kelsey Hanson and Maddesen Weekes earned individual titles for the Plainsmen. Hanson cleared the bar at 5 feet to win the high jump, and Weekes finished first in the pole vault after clearing 9 feet, 6 inches.

Shen also fared well in the relays, as it won the 800-meter event with a time of 1:51.3 and finished first in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:10.4. Saratoga won the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 9:36.1.

Saratoga's Madalayne Smith continued her impressive indoor season. She won the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.7 seconds, and she finished first in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 6.75 inches.

Amanda Borroughs and Brianne Bellon also won individual events for Saratoga. Borroughs edged teammate Margaret MacDonald by three-tenths of a second for the 600-meter title with a winning time of 1:39.6, while Bellon nipped Borroughs by the same margin to take first place in the 1,000 with a time of 3:01.5.
