Reilly's feelings not mixed about MMA

"I will continue to oppose this barbaric sport and do whatever I can to protect children and families from this brutal violence," said Reilly. "However, I predict that the legislation will not pass the full Assembly."

Gov. David Paterson proposed using revenue from the sport to close New York's budget gap.

"When the budget comes out and you see the depth of cuts, I think there may be a sense of what types of revenues we might be able to raise," Paterson said, addressing the MMA issue in January. "We have very depleted resources."

The legalization of MMA is included in the governor's budget proposal submitted to the Legislature in January.

Assemblyman Steve Englebright, D-Setrauket, sponsored the bill.
