Kyle Plante is the queen of the 300-meter dash.
The Colonie sophomore added a New York State High School Indoor Track and Field championship to her trophy case when she won the 300 dash last weekend at Cornell University.
Plante ran a time of 39.20 seconds in her qualifying heat, and then she surged past the competition in the finals to win with a time of 38.94 seconds. Her nearest competitor was Mount Vernon's Deajah Steveens, who finished with a time of 40.38 seconds.
Plante was one of three Section II athletes who won individual titles at states. Saratoga Springs' Madalayne Smith claimed the 55-meter dash title with a time of 7.11 seconds, and Schuylerville's Sarah Palmer won the girls high jump by clearing the bar at 5 feet, 8 inches.
Shenendehowa's 3,200-meter relay team and Section II's intersectional relay team also finished first at states.
On the boys' side, Shaker's Matt Conti had a good day at states as he placed third in an individual event and helped the Blue Bison's 1,600-meter relay team finish third.
Conti finished second in his heat of the 600-meter run with a time of 1:21.79, which wound up being the third-fastest time of the day. Middletown's Mel Mosley, who ran in Conti's heat, took the state title with a time of 1:20.87.
Conti then ran the third leg on Shaker's 1,600-meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 3:27.33. Brendan Dolan, Chris Herman and Ruben Feinman made up the rest of the relay team.
Colonie's John Drabik reached the finals of the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.55 seconds in his semifinal heat. Drabik placed seventh in the finals with a time of 6.57 seconds."
