Mohawk Honda to open in Glenville

In the fall of 2010, Mohawk Honda has planned to open a state of the art car dealership at the former home of Salisbury Chevrolet in Glenville.

At a groundbreaking ceremony on March 18, officials from the town of Glenville and Schenectady County came out to the event to welcome the car dealership to the area, which would create over 80 new jobs and build a tax base in the town of Glenville. Chamber of Schenectady County President, Charles Steiner, said that the expansion into Glenville by the Honda dealership is a commitment to the town and the county by the Haraden family, the owners and operators of Mohawk Honda.

\Today we celebrate another investment into this community and the county as a whole, said Chamber of Schenectady County President Charles Steiner.

The 43,000 square foot structure and the 6 acres of property on the former home of Salisbury Chevrolet will be remodeled to resemble the uniformed look of Honda dealerships, with a state of the art showroom, an indoor service drive and solar panels to be installed on the roof, according to Michael Szemansco of Synthesis LLP, who designed the architecture for the project.

Vice President of Mohawk Honda, Steve Haraden, said the company is excited to start work at the new facility.

"We're thrilled," said Haraden. "My family has been here for 91 years in downtown Schenectady. We're only moving 3 miles to Glenville but its a dream to move into a state of the art facility."

Haraden said Mohawk Honda's downtown campus will still be opened and used as a body shop and to sell used vehicles. The downtown campus will employ around 30 while the new location will employ 80 to 90 new jobs.

Town board member and liaison to the Glenville Economic Development Committee, Sid Ramotar, said the addition of Mohawk Honda is a part of the town's plan of becoming more business friendly.

"Its a great move for Mohawk Honda and the town of Glenville," said Ramotar, "We welcome a strong, reputable business with open arms."

Mohawk Honda will be holding a groundbreaking sale at their new location on Freeman's Bridge Road on March 20 and 21, and plans to be in full operation in the fall of 2010.""
