Scotia-Glenville reached the Section II Class A boys soccer finals by beating Foothills Council rival South Glens Falls 3-0 in Tuesday's semifinal game in Johnstown.
The Tartans (14-2-2) survived some tense moments in the first half as the Bulldogs (11-5-3) applied pressure on Scotia-Glenville's defense. The Tartans then grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the first half on Vitas Carosella's goal.
Chris Alescio gave Scotia-Glenville some breathing room in the second half. First, Alescio scored an unassisted goal to double the Tartans' lead. Then, he sent a pass to a breaking Country Moran, who tallied Scotia-Glenville's third goal.
Scotia-Glenville meets undefeated Ichabod Crane in Saturday's Class A final at Colonie. The Riders (15-0-1) dispatched Albany Academy 6-0 in Tuesday's other semifinal game at Johnstown to set up the battle of the state's No. 6- and No. 13-ranked teams.
To get to Tuesday's semifinal round, Scotia-Glenville had to end a string of home playoff losses against Mohonasen (8-7-3). The Tartans did that last Saturday by shutting out the Mighty Warriors 2-0.
Steve Rumfelt gave Scotia-Glenville a 1-0 lead in the final minute of the first half when he headed in a crossing pass from Alescio. John Mancini then tallied off a rebound midway through the second half to provide the Tartans with their margin of victory.
Mohonasen had several chances to score throughout the game, but Scotia-Glenville goaltender Dan Saccocio made the necessary saves to prevent the Mighty Warriors from getting on the board.
Schalmont (11-4-1) also saw its season end in Saturday's quarterfinal round, as the Sabres fell to South Glens Falls 3-2.
The Bulldogs built a 3-1 halftime lead on goals by Ryan Hanehan, Ben Firlit and Collin Lenon. Dom Pavoldi scored in the second half to get the Sabres close, but they could not get the equalizer."
