Munson, Joyce win Deer Run

Richard Munson and Tara Joyce won the men's and women's titles at last Saturday's Brenda Deer Memorial 5-kilometer run at the Guilderland YMCA.

Munson, a 53-year-old runner from Prattsville, ran the course in a time of 18:23, 26 seconds ahead of runner-up David Wojcik of Troy. Brian Murphy of Albany was third with a time of 18:57.

Joyce, a 21-year-old Altamont resident, claimed the women's division title with a time of 21:29. Bridget Chorbajia of Schenectady was second with a time of 22:14, and Theresa Smolen of Schenectady placed third with a time of 22:35.

Age group winners include:

9 and under: Male -- Bryan Doolin (Slingerlands) 28:45; Female -- Maggie Doolin (Slingerlands) 28:46

10-14: Male -- Ben Long (Amsterdam) 28:34; LeeAna Doolin (Slingerlands) 32:59

15-19: Male -- Marcus Spinnato (Schenectady) 22:26; Female -- Alexandria Schneide (Schenectady) 23:22

20-29: Male -- John Deer (Albany) 21:21; Female -- Amanda Barone (Ballston Spa) 23:11

30-39: Male -- David Shumpert (Clifton Park) 20:03; Female -- Tania Gray (Schenectady) 24:47

40-49: Male -- Scott Schaffer (Schenectady) 20:17; Female -- Evelyn Deer (Milford) 26:06

50-59: Male -- Thomas Locascio (Albany) 20:24; Female -- Kathy Dillinger (Schenectady) 27:20

60-69: Male -- Albert Aldi (Scotia) 25:44; Female -- Nancy Johnston (Ballston Lake) 32:14

70 and over: Male -- James Moore (Niskayuna) 25:55; Female -- Regina Tumidajewicz (Amsterdam) 49:36"
