"It hasn't been the most favorable race for me, but I've had success there," said Terry. "There is just somebody who usually is a little faster and in better shape than me."
Last year, that runner proved to be Terry's Willow Street Athletic Club training partner, Andy Allstadt. Allstadt pulled away from the pack in the first mile and won the race with a time of 25:01, while Terry placed second 22 seconds later.
Terry said he had no qualms seeing Allstadt win the race over him, and added that he would do the same again if another runner sought his advice.
"I like to help out runners who want to get better," said Terry. "I was the same way when I was younger. I always sought out advice from older, successful runners."
This year's Delmar Dash starts at 9 a.m. at Bethlehem Central Middle School on Kenwood Avenue. Besides the 5-mile adult race, there will be three kids fun runs sponsored by Spotlight Newspapers.""
