Clifton Park posts two last-inning wins at World Series

The game looked like it might go extra innings when Alverson strode to the plate with two outs and Richard Drum standing on second base. Alverson hit a sharp grounder past the Grand Forks shortstop, and Drum motored around third and scored the winning run.

The Bulldogs can clinch a berth in the championship round of the World Series with a win in one of their last two games -- Sunday's contest against Cranston (R.I.) or Monday's game against Meridian (Idaho). Both games start at 7:30 p.m.

Guilderland -- the Capital District's other representative in the Babe Ruth World Series -- recorded its first win of the tournament Saturday by beating Glen Allen (Va.) 5-2.

Guilderland (1-1) scored three times in the bottom of the second inning and added two runs in the fourth to pull out the victory.

Ryan Cullam led Guilderland with a two-run double, and Brandon Peda added an RBI single.

Guilderland meets Atlantic Shores (N.J.) Sunday at 5 p.m. ""
