Police rescue boater on Mohawk River

State Troopers Travis Kline and Victoria Lovett on Thursday, Aug. 24, around 6:20 p.m. were dispatched to the Mohawk River, in the area of the Route 9 Crescent Bridge for a boater in distress. Upon arriving they observed a capsized sailboat in heavy winds on the Mohawk River. A boater clung to the outside of the vessel as wind pushed him upstream, according to police.

The troopers obtained assistance from a man, Frank Forpin, with a docked power boat. Forpin transported troopers to the distressed boater and the duo safely pull him and his sailboat out of the water.

The uninjured boater was treated & released at the scene by Clifton Park Halfmoon EMS and West Crescent Fire Department.
